Travel Brochure: Journey to the Center of the Earth
Research and make a travel brochure that describes what you would experience if you traveled through Earth’s different layers. A travel brochure is a folded advertisement about a place you can travel to, it describes the features and experiences of that particular place. The brochure could be tri-fold or in booklet form. (examples are in class) Visit the 7th Grade Projects page at www.marzscience.weebly.com for a list of websites to use for research. You can also use books from the library. Make sure you put the research into your own words.
Must include:
_______ (3 pts) Color-coded drawing of the Earth and its three main layers. (crust, mantle, and core)
_______ (3 pts) Describe what the three main layers are made of. (crust, mantle, and core)
_______ (4 pts) Color-coded drawing of the Earth and its physical layers (lithosphere, asthenosphere, outer core, and inner core)
_______ (4 pts) Describe the physical features of these layers (what they are made of). (lithosphere, asthenosphere, outer core, and inner core)
_______ (4 pts) Write a paragraph or two that describes a “fictional” journey through the layers of the earth. Your journey should demonstrate an understanding of at least three layers ( choose 3: crust, mantle, lithosphere, asthenosphere, outer core, inner core)
_______ (2 pts) The brochure is neat and colorful. (if you print it, please add color with markers or crayons)

- A detailed drawing of the suspect (rock) - 5 points
- Three details about the characteristics of the rock, found in the supplied texts (in complete sentences) - 10 points
- An explanation of what the suspect (rock) is accused of doing (relate the crime to how the rock formed or where it is formed) For example if an intrusive igneous rock is wanted, it may be wanted for cooling above the surface because intrusive igneous rocks cool below the surface. (be creative) - 10 points
Your poster should also be colorful and neat, so that it will attract the attention of the town residents.
